How to Edit AND Save the HOSTS File on Windows Machines
- 06/06/2020 8:01 PM
- Click Start ->All Programs -> Accessories. Right-clickNotepad, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow or Yes.
- Open the Hosts file (from the notepad you just opened) , make your changes, and then click File ->Save.
- The file is located in the same place as all windows machines: %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\ (i.e. c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\)
- If you regularly edit the hosts files (to overcome DNS lag) put a shortcut to it on the desktop, associate it with notepad (or better notepad++) and setup the shortcut to "Run as Administrator"
